History

Gustav Pütter founded MEDICE in 1949 - after the second World War at a time when the British had asked him to pick up medications from Leverkusen and distribute them in the rural regions. Handicapped by spinal tubercolosis he was dedicated to study medicine and to develop his own remedies.

Upon its foundation in 1949 the company initially manufactured and marketed preparations for skin diseases, indigestion and hepatic metabolism.

When the founder died in 1977, his son Dr. med. Sigurd Pütter took over. ICH-guidelines had to be implemented, pharmaceutical development structured, the range of preparations expanded and marketing activities intensified.

In 2001, Dr. med. Katja Pütter-Ammer, daughter of Dr. Sigurd Pütter, joined the executive board of MEDICE, followed by Dr. med. Dr. oec. Richard Ammer in 2003. New pharmaceutical developments and product launches have led to internal growth, strategic acquisitions and a new structure of the company have strengthed MEDICE`s position in the marekt. Today, MEDICE is ranked #50 in Germany among 1024 phamaceutical firms, is market leader in child adolescent psychiatry; has a leading position in renal care as well as the secondary market. In the OTC-segment, MEDICE is ranked among the top 15 players.
